Contemporary design can be difficult to describe. Many people often confuse contemporary with modern, but there is a difference.
Contemporary design has modern elements to it but will often pull from other design styles. It is a design that is forever changing, so contemporary today will not be contemporary 10 or 20 years from now.
It is a design style that is quite popular at the present and the appeal lies in the clean lines, neutral palette and the ease in which the décor is pulled together.
A minimalistic approach to decorative accessories is evident in a contemporary design as well as the use of patterns. The emphasis will be on textured fabric and materials used such as wood, metals and glass.
That is not to say that you will not find a patterned rug or throw pillow but you will typically see more muted tones on the walls and throughout the room.
One of the reasons I love contemporary is the light, airy feeling you get. It is about space and the home itself.
